First post!

Hello All, and when I say all I mean the 5 people who will actually read this,
It is my first blog post!  I thought this would be the best way to keep people updated during my summer away (especially those without facebook). Kinsey also bugged me for a long time to make a blog, so I thought this would make her happy.  I make no promises that I will update this frequently, but I am going to try as hard as I can.  Like me I am sure most of you don't speak any German besides knowing Gutentag means hello, so I will translate the name of my blog for you.  Kaffee=coffee (pretty obvious) klatsch=gossip (I don't feel like there are enough vowels to make that an actual word, but I guess the Germans do)  mit=with.  Basically my name means gossiping over coffee with Abby. I am not positive that I translated it correctly, but I feel like I will not have too many fluent German readers correcting my error.   I do not like coffee, but I felt like it was still a pretty suiting name for my blog.  I feel like this will kind of be like we are just chatting about my journey as I go.  You can just imagine while reading that you are sipping on a cup of coffee, and I am drinking water/smootie/ect, and we are just talking about what I did that day (It is a pretty good image if I do say so myself)

I have five days until I leave, and although I know I should be super excited at this point my nerves are winning out.  I know I will be fine once I get over there, but until then I will just continue to worry about packing everything I need and being gone so long.  Since I probably won't update again until I am over there I will fill you in on my travel info.  I am leaving beautiful Des Moines at the illegal hour of 6am (please calculate that it means I have to be at the airport around 4ish...) I then travel the whole day/night going from Des Moines to chicago, chicago to philly, philly to munich, and then finally munich to nuremberg.  Nuremberg is not my last stop though because I will be residing in Grafenwoerh, so I assume I will be taking a bus or some other mode of transportation there.  All of the traveling and the jump in time is going to make for one tired Abby.  I believe I arrive in Germany the next day around midmorning, but I am not positive.  I am also too lazy to go look at my paper.

I will try to update soon after I arrive, and I will tell you all about the traveling.  I will also hopefully be able to give more information about my living situation and other fun things.

Until then Auf Wiedersehen!

  2. I am super excited for you!! And I love that you have a blog! My advice: on the base, you should be ok-because they are Americans, BUT if traveling around, always have Kleenex and hand sanitizer, because Europeans have this thing against toilet paper and soap in bathrooms! Have fun!!!!!
